M. PHARMACY (MASTER OF PHARMACY) – 2 YEARS

M.Pharm. (Master of Pharmacy) is a postgraduate academic degree which is awarded for a course or program in the medical field of Pharmacy. Pharmacy is the branch of the health sciences dealing with the preparation, dispensing, and proper utilization of drugs. The duration of Master Degree in Pharmacy is 2 years. M.Pharm. is divided into a number of semesters. At the end of the each semester, there is an examination wherein candidates are examined in the courses prescribed for that semester.

The course trains students in the above mentioned aspects and makes them ready to take on various roles in the pharmaceutical industry. Possessing the knowledge of medicines and biology, graduates may perform tasks such as prescribing appropriate medicine to patients (pharmacist), clinical research, work at pharmaceutical companies etc.

Eligibility for admission

Admission to the above programme shall me made subject to the eligibility, qualifications and specialization prescribed by the University for each Programme from time to time. Admissions shall be made either on the basis of merit rank obtained by the qualified candidates at an Entrance test conducted by the University or on the basis of GPAT/ PGECET score, subject to reservations prescribed by the University or Government policies from time to time.

DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICS

The Pharmaceutics department of Krishna Teja Pharmacy College was established in the year 2010 to study the quantitative aspects of drug delivery. Pharmaceutics the science of medicine and design and dosage form design. The department initiated the research area are the development, production and catheterization of dosage forms/drug delivery as well as deposition and action of drugs in the body, pre-formulation, pharmacokinetics, bioavailability and bioequivalence, conventional and novel drug delivery system.

2. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY

The mission of our Department includes research and teaching in molecular, cellular, and clinical pharmacology. We actively participate in various specialized research areas associated primarily with the Department of Pharmacology. The Academic staff members within the Department are highly involved in teaching both theoretical and practical courses in pharmacology for both graduate and postgraduate students. The Department started to teach various courses dealing with Pharmacology, Physiology, Anatomy, biochemistry for the undergraduate student. Furthermore, the staff members managed to publish many research papers in outstanding journals and periodicals in the fields of Pharmacology and toxicology.The Department is equipped with modern labs and sophisticated instruments & machineries like Digital Electro Convulsiometer, Analgesiometer (Eddy’s hot plate), Rota Rod, Digital Actophotometer, Cooling Centrifuge, Y Maze, Water Maze, Elevated plus Maze for Rat and All Mazes Video Tracking software for CNS Activities etc.

3. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS

The Department was established in 2006 to provide a focus for Pharmaceutical Analysis at the Krishna Teja Pharmacy College. The M. Pharmacy course in Pharmaceutical Analysis was started in the year 2011. Pharmaceutical analysis is a core department which is responsible for imparting knowledge in the field of modern instrumental techniques for B.Pharm, Pharm. D and all branches of M.Pharm. It involves basic research in identity, purity, content and stability of starting materials, excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Impurities usually stem from the synthesis of the active ingredients; they are usually monitored according to the ICH guidelines and the pharmacopoeia standards.

The department is actively involved in the method development of synthetic and natural drugs, pharmacokinetic studies, stability studies, elucidation of newly synthesized drugs using infrared spectroscopy, UV. The department of pharmaceutical analysis has the modern equipment’s with good infrastructure facilities.

A broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical analysis is disseminated to the students with an emphasis placed on both the academic and professional aspects of the subject and it prepares graduates, post graduates and Doctorates for entry into research programmes in the Pharmaceutical Analysis. The department is also recognized in JNTUA for the conduct of Ph D research program 2017.

4. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL REGULATORY AFFAIRS

Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs (PRA) is a vital unit in a pharmaceutical company that successfully drives the Research and Development (R&D) efforts of the company to the market. The key success of pharmaceutical companies globally lies in obtaining timely marketing approval from the Regulatory agencies of the region where the drug is to be sold. Various government agencies are involved in regulating drugs within their market, namely, USFDA-US, EDQM-Europe, TGA-Australia, MHRA-UK and TPD-Canada. The importance and need of regulatory affairs in the company led to start the department for PG students in the college.

The M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs is a first time course offering in chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, introduced by Krishna Teja Pharmacy College. The department was started in the year 2012 and is currently having an intake of 15 PG respectively. The college aims to provide a comprehensive education in the important aspects of Regulatory and Quality Compliance in the pharmaceutical industry. The department has technically competent faculty members with a blend of academic, industrial and research background. There are 5 faculty members available for teaching in the department, out of which two have done their research work and three staffs are pursuing their phDs. 

The Objectives of the department is to provide quality inputs and to make available a pool of competent professionals in the area of Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs. The students are trained to well focus on domain areas like documentation / research writing expertise in the field of Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs. Course is a need based study, which suits the current industry requirements

5. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL QUALITY ASSURANCE

The department of Pharmaceutical Analysis was established in the year 2006 with a mission to make sound decision in pharmacy education supported by evidence based analysis using sophisticated analytical techniques through research. The vision of the department is to give our society education and support their need to accelerate the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of pharmaceutical analysis and to enrich the quality of life.

The M. Pharmacy course in Pharmaceutical Analysis was started in the same year 2011 and the M. Pharmacy Course in Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance was started in 2012. The department is also recognized in JNTUA for the conduct of Ph D research program 2017.
